On a recent trip to our local library I came across a very, very interesting book.
Eat This, Not That! The Supermarket Survival Guide. It claims to help you save 10, 20, 30 pounds with easy food swaps. The "No-diet" weight loss solution! So, like any sane person would, I had to check it out.
I literally couldn't put it down. For about an hour I sat there shouting out crazy nutrition facts to my husband about the food we choose to eat. Now, please no comment bashing after I tell you I have eaten most of the stuff on the Do Not Eat list. Ick.
Anywhoo...
Here are some interesting comparisons and facts:
•Marie Callender's creamy chicken pot pie is the
worst packaged food in America. At 1,060 calories 1,440mg sodium and 64g fat (24g saturated). Yuck!!!
•Twix is the
worst candy bar at 280 calories 27g sugars 14g fat (11g saturated). The saturated fat equivalent is equal to 11 strips of bacon!
•Peaches are the most
pesticide ridden fruit out there. Go organic with these if you can. Also apples, pears and strawberries are also good organic picks.
•Apple Jacks are a better choice then Apple Cinnamon Cheerios with 50 calories and 1 1/2g fat less.
•We consume 450 calories a day on average from beverages alone, nearly twice as many as 30 years ago. This increase amounts to an extra 23 pounds a year!!
I highly recommend picking up this book. It's fascinating and I am going to be taking this book with me when I shop next!
