Baby Catcher

I am currently reading Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent. Its a wonderful book that recounts how Peggy became a licensed midwife specializing in home births. A collection of birth stories that I cannot put down. At first I was a bit hesitant to start it because I thought it would scare me but then I held my breathe and took it in. Yes, there are a few very scary moments that had me sleepless for nights and a few heartbreaking stories of babies lost which had me sobbing on my husbands shoulder but every night I still snuggle into bed and pick up this book. I have not finished it yet but will be in the next few days. I came across a paragraph that I read and re read many times. It really stuck in my mind so I wanted to share.

"And time after time I had the honor and privilege of looking into the astonished faces of first-time moms as I laid slippery newborns in their arms. They gazed back at me, awed by the intensity of this thing called childbirth, this rite of passage they had just completed. Having made that journey, having tapped depths of strength they never knew they possessed, they crossed a line and never looked back. Right before my eyes, they left girlhood far behind as they stepped with both feet into womanhood, into the world of Women Who Have Given Birth. "

I highly recommend that every mother should pick this book up. Its a fascinating read!

Wow, it sounds great! Love the passage you shared with us. It actually brought tears to my eyes (of course those pregnancy hormones do that to me a lot!)
